The Soldier is Still There
I‘m not asking for a handout, only for that which I have earned
By the suspicious way you question me, it’s no wonder I feel spurned
Why will no one ever believe me, the system doesn’t care
For although you cannot see him the soldier is still there
The scars that I carry are those you can never see
The evidence that you seek is buried deep inside of me
Why will no one ever believe me, the system doesn’t care
For although you cannot see him the soldier is still there
To face each day is a struggle, and at night it just gets worse
For some the memories of war can be difficult to disperse
Why will no one ever believe me, the system doesn’t care
For although you cannot see him the soldier is still there
When I ask for help remember, I have paid in full and more
Don’t treat me as though I have just crawled under the door
Why will no one ever believe me, the system doesn’t care
For although you cannot see him the soldier is still there
